A maior parte das lesões em corredores acontece pelo estresse repetitivo ao qual o corpo é imposto durante a atividade. Cada vez que encostamos o pé no chão na corrida o corpo recebe um impacto de aproximadamente três vezes o peso corporal. Além disso, durante todo o tempo ele luta contra a força da gravidade para se manter em pé e alinhado. As falhas de movimento são uma das causas mais comuns das lesões em corredores.

Se os músculos e articulações estivem trabalhando de forma correta esses fatores de estresse não são prejudiciais. Porém, se há alguma falha no funcionamento do corpo essa sobrecarga se torna maior que o suportável e as lesões aparecem:

Essas alterações de movimento são detectadas através da avaliação biomecânica da corrida, onde todos os movimentos do corredor são analisados, juntamente com a sua força muscular e postura.

A avaliação feita em laboratórios de biomecânica fornecem, em números detalhados, as alterações dos movimentos dos atletas e as avaliações feitas com câmeras convencionais, embora não tenham a mesma precisão, geram dados mais práticos e utilizáveis pelos atletas, profissionais da saúde e treinadores.

Após a identificação da causa mecânica do problema é preciso revertê-la. Muitos corredores já me questionaram: “Como isso é possível? Eu não penso nos meus movimentos para correr e é muito difícil modificá-los”. A pergunta tem fundamento, pois as passadas da corrida são controladas pelo sistema nervoso central de forma automática, sem muita interferência de nosso controle consciente.

Mas é possível sim melhorar o padrão de movimento através do fortalecimento de musculatura específica e aplicação de técnicas e exercícios funcionais, que vão treinando o corpo a se mover da forma correta automaticamente. Cada corredor precisa de exercícios específicos para o seu caso, pois cada um tem uma forma particular de se movimentar. Poupar as articulações e músculos de um sobrecarga excessiva é o melhor caminho para a prevenção e tratamento de lesões.
